NFS READDIR cookie

An NFS READDIR cookie is a server-supplied cursor used to continue retrieving entries from a directory.

NFSv4.1 continuation: start with cookie zero, then return a server-issued cookie with its accompanying cookieverf. The server must reject a verifier it determines is invalid with NFS4ERR_NOT_SAME. The cookie is not a byte offset. [1]

Scope: a cookie/verifier pair addresses continuation for that directory, not a coordinated snapshot of a directory tree. This is a protocol-scope distinction, not an observed NFS failure. [1]

Entry attributes: if requested, rdattr_error can carry an attribute-fetch failure for one entry inside an otherwise successful READDIR reply. Inspect per-entry errors as well as the operation status; listing success is not complete metadata capture. [1]
