Intel Optane

Intel's brand for storage products built on 3D XPoint non-volatile memory before the business was wound down.

Intel Optane was Intel’s product brand for devices built on 3D XPoint media: NVMe SSDs, small client caching modules, and datacenter persistent memory (DCPMM) DIMMs. It sat in the storage-class memory gap—lower latency and different endurance economics than NAND, but not DRAM. Micron exited 3D XPoint in 2021; Intel announced in 2022 that it would wind down Optane and stop future product development while supporting existing warranties. Treat Optane as a legacy technology family for archival understanding and remaining installed base—not an active procurement roadmap. Media details live under the 3D XPoint term; Optane is the Intel-branded productization.
