3D XPoint
A cross-point non-volatile memory technology announced by Intel and Micron, distinct from NAND flash in cell physics.
3D XPoint is the underlying non-volatile memory technology announced jointly by Intel and Micron in 2015: a transistor-less cross-point array of selectors and memory cells addressable at bit granularity, positioned between DRAM latency and NAND economics. Intel productized it as Optane; Micron briefly used the QuantX name before exiting. Volume manufacturing ended after Micron’s 2021 exit from the technology and Intel’s 2022 Optane wind-down. Cards and modules that remain in the field are end-of-life media—useful historically and for understanding storage-class memory attempts, not as a current industry roadmap. Do not equate 3D XPoint with NAND cell types (SLC–QLC).
