Optical-disc lifetime estimate

An optical-disc lifetime estimate predicts time to a defined error threshold for a stated population percentile and storage environment under an aging model.

The NIST/LC 2007 method combines accelerated temperature/humidity tests, an Eyring model and log-normal lifetimes at 25 degrees Celsius and 50% relative humidity [1]. Its 95% survival target differs from its 95% confidence calculation. The report concerns 2005 products and selected test bands; it is not a warranty, a complete-disc readability certificate or a modern-media forecast.
