Page LSN
A page LSN records the log sequence number of the latest logged change reflected in a database page under the engine's recovery protocol.
In original ARIES, redo uses the page LSN, after dirty-page-table and recovery-LSN filtering, to avoid reapplying an update already present on the page. The page state and its LSN must agree; the number alone does not detect torn or corrupt pages. Undo does not reuse that redo test: history has first been repeated, and compensation records track rollback progress. [1] A page LSN is not the global durable-log flush position or a timestamp, and this description must not be generalized to every engine. [2]
