SCSI logical unit (LU)

A SCSI logical unit is an I/O-command execution entity addressed within a SCSI target.

Entity and address: The logical unit performs commands; its logical unit number (LUN) supplies the address. Confusing these two hides the distinction between the device function and how it is selected. [1] [2]

Scope: A target can serve multiple logical units. A logical unit need not correspond one-to-one with a physical drive. [3]
