Snapshot merge (LVM)

An LVM snapshot merge applies a snapshot's contents to its origin and removes the snapshot when complete.

For a COW snapshot, --mergesnapshot can defer the merge until activation with both volumes closed. Once merging starts, the resulting volume retains the origin's identity. A successful request is not necessarily a completed rollback. [1]

This modifies the origin rather than exporting an independent recovery copy. Thin-snapshot merge uses a separate operation with its own implementation. [1]
