NAND thermal annealing
NAND thermal annealing is a controlled heat treatment studied for partially reversing cycling-induced degradation in flash-memory cells.
A 2024 raw-chip study tested 64-layer TLC and 32-layer MLC floating-gate NAND, not a complete SSD [1]. Its roughly 30% TLC endurance improvement is a curve-based, protocol-specific estimate; recovery of an error metric is not restoration to fresh-cell endurance. Evaluation reprogrammed data after treatment. Heating a populated SSD is not a supported repair procedure established by this research.
