SCSI Information field
The SCSI Information field carries a command- or device-specific value whose interpretation depends on the sense-data format and the reported command.
Fixed-format sense carries four Information bytes; descriptor-format sense uses eight in the type-00h descriptor. This is distinct from the type-01h Command-specific Information descriptor. The cited Rev. M reference requires VALID=1 when the type-00h descriptor is returned. [1]
Linux v6.12 checks fixed-format VALID before extracting a big-endian 32-bit value and extracts a big-endian 64-bit value from the Information descriptor. Its helper returns availability separately from the numeric output. A false return leaves the output argument unchanged, so discard it unless the return is true; the helper does not by itself establish command meaning or fully validate an arbitrary captured descriptor. [2]
Preserve received length, validity and command context. Missing or truncated information is not LBA zero; a valid zero remains a possible value. An address interpretation requires the relevant command contract, not merely a decoded number. [3]

Limitations
- An Information value alone neither diagnoses a physical fault nor proves a complete list of affected blocks.
