Backup
A backup is a retained copy of data or software intended to support later recovery.
A snapshot can be a backup source or recovery copy; its name alone does not establish independence from the original storage. OpenZFS send streams can be stored or received elsewhere. Hesela's engineering criterion is to name the failure the copy must survive, including loss of the source pool or deletion by a shared administrator.

Advantages

Limitations
- Transporting a snapshot does not by itself establish independent retention or access control. [2]
