eMMC (embedded MultiMediaCard)
eMMC is a JEDEC-standard managed-flash device that combines NAND memory and a controller in one package and communicates through a parallel MMC interface.
The integrated controller performs address translation, error correction, wear leveling and bad-block management; the host does not directly manage each NAND page. Same package does not mean same silicon die. [1]
Linux exposes the MMC boot areas separately from the user area, commonly as mmcblkXboot0 and mmcblkXboot1, with writes disabled by default. These device areas are not ordinary filesystem partitions, and their read-only setting is not RPMB authentication. [2]
The eMMC interface name does not identify the NAND bits per cell or establish application-level endurance. The paired guide separates media, interface, boot-area and security questions. [3]
