Consumer SSD
SSD products aimed at PCs and client devices, often prioritizing cost per GB over datacenter endurance specs.
Consumer (client) SSDs target laptops, desktops, and gaming systems—commonly M.2 NVMe or 2.5-inch SATA—with firmware tuned for bursty interactive workloads, DRAM or HMB caching, aggressive idle power, and retail price points. They share NAND physics with enterprise drives but often omit full capacitor-backed power-loss protection, dual-port HA, and datacenter qualification. TLC/QLC with SLC caching dominates shelves. OS stacks expect TRIM/discard for steady-state performance. SNIA client-vs-datacenter classification hinges on PLP and persistence requirements—not on whether the package says “Pro.”
