E3.S is the short member of the EDSFF E3 device family specified by SFF-TA-1008.
E3 includes SSDs and non-storage devices such as CXL devices, accelerators and network interfaces. The E3.S designation identifies an enclosure family, not an NVMe command set or performance rating. [1]
The Rev 3.0 changes can make older devices incompatible. Rev 3.0a requires a mechanical key intended to prevent unsuitable older devices from entering direct-liquid-cooled systems and encountering damaging pressure; check the exact enclosure and host revision. [1]
Nominal E3 width is 76 mm; short devices are 112.75 mm long, compared with 142.2 mm for E3.L. Thickness is 7.5 mm for single-thickness devices and 16.8 mm for 2T. These enclosure dimensions do not establish host support. [1]
