iSCSI Connection

An iSCSI connection is a TCP connection carrying iSCSI protocol messages between an initiator and a target within an iSCSI session.

Each TCP connection must complete its own iSCSI login before entering the Full Feature Phase; the login associates it with a session and negotiates the applicable parameters. [1] Its connection ID (CID) is unique within that session, not a globally unique target identifier or a replacement for the session identity. [2]

Command connection allegiance normally keeps a command's associated data, responses and status on the connection carrying the request; recovery can explicitly reassign allegiance under the protocol's recovery rules. This is not arbitrary striping of a single command across the session's connections. [3] A broken TCP connection does not by itself prove that every command can continue elsewhere: the negotiated ErrorRecoveryLevel and implemented recovery capabilities matter. [4] The paired analysis explains the difference between reconnecting transport and recovering outstanding work. [5]
