iSCSI Session
An iSCSI session is a protocol association between an initiator and a target that groups TCP connections and, for a normal session, represents a SCSI I_T nexus.
A session normally has one or more TCP connections, each with its own connection ID; connections can be added or removed without making the session and a connection the same object. The initiator name plus ISID identifies the SCSI initiator port, and the target name plus TPGT identifies the SCSI target port. [1] [2]
MaxConnections is a session-wide negotiated limit whose default is 1 and whose result is the lower offered value, so multiple-connection capability must not be assumed. [3]
A normal session can carry SCSI commands for logical units; a discovery session is restricted to target discovery and logout, has MaxConnections equal to 1 and uses ErrorRecoveryLevel 0. [4] A failed session can temporarily retain state without an active connection under the recovery rules. [5] The paired analysis distinguishes connections within one session from separate sessions.
