iSCSI Network Portal
An iSCSI network portal is a TCP/IP access point used by an iSCSI node, identified by an IP address at an initiator and by an IP address plus listening TCP port at a target.
The target-side address locates a place to open a TCP connection; it does not identify the target node by itself. Multiple iSCSI nodes can share network portals, and one node can be reachable through multiple portals, so an inventory should retain both the node name and the portal address. [1] As used by a particular node, a portal belongs to exactly one portal group within that node. This grouping determines which portals can coordinate connections belonging to a common session; merely discovering several target addresses does not establish that they can all join one session. [1] Login still supplies the required names and negotiates the association after TCP establishment. [2] The paired analysis provides the identity-to-address distinction in context. [3]
