iSCSI Portal Group
An iSCSI portal group is a node-scoped set of network portals capable of coordinating the connections of a common iSCSI session.
A portal group is scoped to an iSCSI node, and each portal as used by that node belongs to exactly one group. Both initiators and targets have portal groups, but the protocol directly exposes target portal groups. Not every portal in a group must participate in every session. [1] The target's TargetPortalGroupTag (TPGT) identifies the group within that target node, not globally; it is a 16-bit value and zero is explicitly legal. A matching tag on different target names does not identify the same group. [2] The target name plus TPGT identifies the SCSI target port in the mapping model. [3] Group membership does not override the negotiated connection limit or guarantee that a particular implementation supports multiple active connections. [4] The paired analysis separates portal groups from independent host paths. [5]
