iSCSI Node Name
An iSCSI node name is the persistent, location-independent identifier of an iSCSI initiator or target, distinct from the IP addresses through which that node is reached.
The name identifies a logical node, not a network adapter, a TCP endpoint or a logical unit. A node can retain its name while its addresses or adapters change, and several nodes can share an address. RFC 7143 defines iqn., eui. and naa. naming formats; IQN is therefore one format, not a synonym for every iSCSI name. [1] [2] InitiatorName and TargetName carry node names during login, while a friendly alias does not replace a node name. A name identifies the claimed node but is not itself proof of authentication or authorization to access its logical units. [3] [4] The paired analysis explains how node names differ from portal addresses and session identifiers. [5]
